Delicious Poppy Seed Bread

This is a wonderful recipe I received from a relative for Poppy Seed Bread that I've used many times . It is so easy to make, and I've used it often for a Christmas gift for neighbors, or to take to a church fellowship meal. It's so delicious! I must tell you first that while the recipe is mine, the photo is not, as I borrowed it from http://www.tasteofhome.com/. I'll hope you'll also visit their site as they have many wonderful recipes too.

Poppy Seed Bread
Makes 2 loaves

3 cups flour
2 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup oil
1 1/2 cup milk
3 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons EACH of vanilla, butter, and almond flavorings
1 1/2 tablespoons poppy seeds

Frosting ingredients:
1/4 cup orange juice
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon EACH of vanilla, butter, and almond flavorings

Mix all the ingredients except frosting ingredients in a mixing bowl and beat for 2 minutes. Grease and flour 2 regular loaf pans. Pour 1/2 of the batter in each pan, and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool 5 minutes in the pan, then mix all ingredients for the frosting and pour it over the loaves while still in the pan. Let stand at least 5 minutes before removing.

We enjoyed going to our daughter's college to visit her on parents day today. They had a hymn sing, and other activities, and then we just enjoyed taking her to small, unique mountain gift shops and looking at all the beautiful, creative things like pottery, hand-knit shawls, etc. It was such a nice get-away.

  2. Yum Teresa! Sounds soooo good! Do you not use any lemon in it at all? I think your neighbours are very fortunate! :)

    Have a lovely day!

  3. Linda, I'm glad you can use the recipe! Great to hear! It is so easy you'll be pleased at how fast you'll have it together.

Camille, Thanks for stopping by:) You know I think it's actually called Poppy Seed Bread, instead of LEMON Poppy Seed Bread. Oops! The almond flavoring takes the place of lemon. I'll have to edit the title.

    Enjoy your family today!

    Warmly,
    Teresa

  4. Yum Yum Yum! LOL ~ I *love* lemon loaf which was why I noticed the lack of lemon in the recipe. I wasn't trying to nitpick! I thought maybe the orange was in place of the original lemon or something like that. I will have to give this one a try...I think the almond extract and the orange will be wonderful! Thanks for sharing!

    Blessings,
    Camille

  5. Good evening Teresa! This looks wonderful! I have made a poppy seed bread before that was delicious ~ but it used a cake mix and I love the fact that this is all from scratch! Thank you for sharing the recipe.

    Sweet blessings,

  6. Hi Sharon,

I hope you do enjoy this "from scratch" recipe. I imagine you're like me--I read about how preservatives and additives are bad for our health and I just desire to make more food from scratch so I can control what goes into it!

    Camille,

No problem! But I am glad you unintentionally pointed that out! I'm sure you must be making something yummy at your house today. We got out today and just enjoyed visiting a gold mine close by while our college-aged daughter is home for fall break, so I didn't do much cooking today.

I hope you both enjoy the Lord's day and worshiping Him tomorrow:) He is worthy of our worship, isn't He?
